Export of agriculture and allied commodities of India saw an emphatic growth of 11.97 percent to USD 30.21 billion during the April-October period of fiscal 23 from USD 26.98 billion in the corresponding period of 2021-22, the agriculture ministry shared on Monday.

In 2020-21, the Agri and allied exports stood at USD 41.86 billion, while in 2021-22, exports rose to USD 50.24 billion, up 19.99%.

Export commodities that saw a significant increase included wheat, rice, raw cotton, castor oil, coffee, fresh fruits, and other cereals.

The rise (YoY) in exports across categories are as follows:

  • Wheat exports rose 273.54% 
  • Exports Other than Basmati Rice marked an uptick of 27.29% 
  • Raw cotton, including waste, saw a rise of 48.43%
  • Castor Oil exports clocked a 28.16% rise
  • Other cereals exports rose 53.82%
  • Coffee exports increased by 41.84%
  • Fresh Fruits exports grew 14.11% 

The ministry said farm produce logistics improved with the inception of the ‘Kisan Rail’ service in July 2020. Till January 2022, 1900 services on 155 routes were operated, which rose to 2359 services on 167 routes in December 2022.

Around 1,260 wholesale mandis in 22 states and three union territories have been integrated with the electronic-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) till December 2022, as per the ministry, with 1.72 crore farmers and 2.13 lakh traders registered on the platform.

Also, 4,015 farmer-producer organizations (FPOs) have registered under a new scheme.

Start-up Ecosystem in agriculture and allied sector

Knowledge Partners (KPs) and Agribusiness Incubators (R-ABIs) selected startups increased from 799 in January 2022 to 1055 Startups in December 2022.  

Till December 2022, Rs. 6317.91 lakhs grants-in-aid has been remitted in installments to the respective KPs & R-ABIs as support by DA&FW, up from 3790.11 lacs in January 2022.

Record food grains and horticulture production

December 2022 saw a record production of Food grains at 315.72 million tonnes ( per 4th advance estimates) from 308.65 million tonnes in January 2022.

As per third-advance estimates, horticulture production during 2020-21 stood at 331.05 million MT, up from 342.33 million MT in 2021-22.

Increase In MSP 

The government increased the MSP for Paddy (common) to Rs. 2040 per quintal in December 2022 from Rs. 1940 per quintal in January 2022.

MSP for Wheat inched up from Rs. 2015 per quintal in January, 2022 to Rs. 2125 per quintal in December, 2022.
