Neuralink’s Brain-Computer symbiosis: Key to the future?

Elon Musk and Neuralink

From The Patent

From Wikipedia

If you have been on the internet and are interested in technology. You might know that most of our research is either for increasing our life, offering better convenience or for bettering our weaponry. From the very beginning, every tool that is created, every machine that is built has been for convenience and to achieve long life. Both of which are in the idea of the future. You might have watched various TV shows or movies which show it. Science Fiction has been talking about it for ages and now finally Elon Musk the CEO of Tesla, The Boring Co. and Neuralink has said tweeted something which might reinforce the future and supplement what is being said for over 2 decades in mainstream media and for around 50 decades in sidelines.

Humans are kind of weak even if you consider the scale of the Earth, we are neither the fastest, nor the strongest, nor even the smartest. Over the years multiple times have we considered ourselves as the centre of everything. From the Sun revolving around Earth too Earth being the centre of the universe to that notion of there being one supreme religion.

The idea of there existing a grand purpose

We, humans, are unfathomably minuscule on the large scale of things, which is why we must evolve in order to reach greater heights. By 2030, AI will reach human levels of intelligence. That is by learning from the billions of scenarios that have been ingested into it, it will be able to choose on its own what it thinks is the best. Now although that may seem as sentience it is not, but it is purported that AI might reach human levels of sentience as soon as 2050.

Now you may ask about its importance. The importance lies in the grand scheme of things, who are we? Why do we exist, what is the reason that we exist. These are some of the philosophical questions that religion tries to answer so as to stop people from spiralling into a midlife crisis but just from the very beginning. It is important because if we do not have some kind of grand purpose set by some supernatural being then we are just like those animals whom we have left behind.

Our existences limited to just eating, doing our daily chores and ensuring the survival of our species by trying to be the best mate possible among billions of others. But we are just not that. We are bigger than that but the sheer scale of everything else has skewed our minds to justify our existence.

Why do we need to explore the space

We don’t need to justify it, we just need to live it and to continue doing that we need to do what we all do, get out of our house and look around to learn things. To gather new resources, we need to explore. Even if that means leaving the comfort of our home, the Earth.

We need to gather resources from other planets since we are running out of resources at our own home, and just like humans of the yesteryear left their countries to go to other countries to gather more resources while also settling there and making it their new home.

And because we have already established that although we are where we are, we are kind of “Jack of all trades and master of none” which is why we need some help to develop ourselves soon before we run out of resources. Over the past 100+ years, we have consumed so much of resources that if we need to wait for another hundred thousand years to wait for evolution to do its trick we simply might not exist that long. And as we currently are, we absolutely can’t survive in the kinds of conditions the nearest planets or even our moon has.

Which is why we need to either have a super sentient machine which will do exactly what we would do in any situation up there exploring the world and sending back the resources it gathers. Or we merge with them and go up there and resume our search from actually being there rather than 384, 000 miles away from the moon and 77.828 million km from mars from pictures and other data sent by the rovers on Mars or the mirrors set up on Moon.

From Healthcare Packaging

The first step to that is what Elon Musk is proposing to show a working prototype of tomorrow. Neuralink, an ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers. The implications of which are innumerable. Just the raw potential of it makes me excited for the future. Humans with the literal processing power of a computer and as bionics research are progressing, we could soon make human bodies much more invulnerable to damage and hopefully even revive the dead or at least their consciousness which only exists in theory but the possibilities are endless.

Belief

A future where we are able to combine the processing power of a computer, total library of everything on the internet with an invulnerable body and a consciousness of a human to control it, we might actually be able to reach new heights. Emerging as single-celled organisms, billions of years ago to what we have become and what we have reached today is incomprehensible. Mostly due to the sheer amount of stakes attributed to it and due to the astronomically low possibility of it happening.

And with our limited thinking power, we are unable to comprehend every aspect of them which is why they are termed as an almost impossible coincidence.

We, humans, are adept at pattern recognition and justification. But we can only see patterns to an extent beyond which we attribute them to either miracle or something beyond us. But with this possibility, we would be able to comprehend the zettabytes of data available on the internet. To find out any correlation and patterns and finally find out the truth.

Conclusion

Our Brains having a symbiotic relationship with computers is indeed a key. To the possibility of a future where we have become something which has existed only in science fiction. The future is not full of rainbows but it is filled with innumerable possibilities and hope. Hope which drives us to persevere and succeed and believe in a future.
