Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ Update Brings Night Mode Schedule and Other Improvements

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

Samsung has started rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+, bringing the February 2019 security patch alongside a new feature that allows users to schedule Night Mode and some system improvements. Samsung has released the Android 9.0 Pie update in January for its flagship smartphones but the option to schedule Night Mode was absent from the update. Additionally, the update also brings stability for WiFi, NFC, and emails along with hand gesture tweaks. The update is currently live in Germany and is expected to come to other regions as well soon.

The most notable change that the update brings is the ability to schedule Night Mode on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. Users can now choose the default option that automatically enables and disables Night Mode at sunset and sunrise respectively. Users can also choose to create a custom timing according to their usage pattern. The Night Mode helps in reducing strain from eyes as well as extending battery life. The update rollout was first spotted by AllAboutSamsung.

The update also brings the latest Android security patch, which fixes a critical issue that could allow a bad actor to remotely execute arbitrary code by just sending a specially crafted PNG file. The vulnerability could be exploited as soon as the user opens the PNG file.

The update is 361.35MB in volume and has the build number G960FXXU2CSB3 for the Galaxy S9 and G965FXXU2CSB3 for Galaxy S9+. The changelog also mentions tweaked hand gestures alongside the removal of blur effects while sliding down the notification shade. A Redditor mentioned that after the update the phone seems much smoother and the apps now seem to start considerably faster. As we mentioned, the update is rolling out in stages and has gone live in Germany as of now, however, the update is soon to be rolled out globally soon.
