HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Skoda launches its 2020 Rapid TSI AT variant.
  • The all-new Skoda Rapid TSI AT comes with a price tag of ₹9.49 lakh onwards.
  • The AT gearbox is a 6-speed torque converter.

At the beginning of this year, Skoda introduced the 1.0-litre TSI engine in India. The same 1.0-litre TSI engine also powers the Volkswagen Vento while producing 110BHP of power with a peak torque of 175Nm. However, the Volkswagen Vento comes with an Automatic Transmission while Skoda Rapid only offered a manual transmission.

But now Skoda has launched the Automatic Transmission variant of the Skoda Rapid. Meanwhile, the AT gearbox on offer with the Skoda Rapid is the same 6-speed torque converter that Volkswagen offers on Vento.

Skoda will offer the AT transmission across all the variants including the Rider Plus, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo. The Skoda Rapid Rider is not on the list due to its unavailability.

However, the all-new Skoda Rapid with AT transmission will return a mileage of 16.24kmpl as claimed by the ARAI. Meanwhile, the manual transmission coupled with the same 1.0-litre TSI engine returns a mileage of around 18.97kmpl.

Coming to the pricing, Skoda has priced the AT variant of Rapid between ₹9.49-13.29 lakh depending upon the trim. The Skoda Rapid AT is expensive by around ₹1.5 lakh when compared to the manual variant. However, at this price point Skoda Rapid AT becomes the most affordable midsize sedan with Automatic Transmission in India.

The booking for the Skoda Rapid can now be done against a token amount of ₹25,000. According to Skoda, the company will start delivering the Skoda Rapid AT from today itself..
