Another day. Another launch. But this time it is not a casual one. Mercedes after making us wait for so many months has finally launched the A-Class Limousine in India. So it was worth waiting for? Absolutely yes.

But what is more worth talking about is the price tag. After heavy localisation, the German carmaker did manage to bring down the price to an affordable Rs.39.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Looks like it is going to top the sales chart. If not, it won’t disappoint us for sure.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Mercedes has launched the 2021 Mercedes Benz A-Class range in India.
  • The all-new range now comes with a price tag of Rs.39.90 Lakh onwards.
  • Performance-oriented AMG A35 variant is also available at Rs.56.24 Lakhs.

So basically, the company will be making a fresh start with the all-new platform. Globally, this same underpinning is quite common on the updated CLA as well as GLA. Precisely, it is a longer version of that same outgoing counterpart. In terms of design, the 2021 Mercedes Benz A-Class Limousine is equally modern when compared to its elder siblings.

To start with it gets a new set of LED headlamps with DRLs, a neatly designed grille, LED taillamps, sloping roofline and a lot of cuts and creases all around that look extremely premium. Feature-wise, it does not feel like an entry-level sedan at all.

Available with one and only Progressive Line variant it comes equipped with dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad and electrically adjustable front seats to name a few. Complimenting the dashboard is the new dual-screen setup. And for clarity, the first one is reserved for the fully digital instrument cluster. Whereas, the other one continues to serve as the MBUX infotainment system.

Under the hood, customers will get the option to choose between 1.3-litre turbo petrol or 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor. The first one is good for producing 163HP and 250Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the latter one is capable of churning out a massive 150HP alongside 320Nm of torque. The petrol engine is currently available with a 7-speed DCT gearbox while the diesel motor gets an 8-speed DCT on offer.

Mercedes has also launched a performance-oriented AMG A35 variant in India at Rs.56.24 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is practical, powerful and packs almost every feature that the regular A-Class does. Call it an entry-level performance sedan. But it has actually got a beast in its belly. That’s true because the all-new Mercedes AMG A35 comes with a powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Further, it is extremely capable of producing a massive 306HP and 400Nm of peak torque. Not to forget, this engine comes mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox with the company’s 4Matic AWD powertrain.

Alternatives

In India, the 2021 Mercedes Benz A-Class will directly compete with BMW’s entry level 2 Series Gran Cope.
