Not an exact track weapon but it can do that as well whenever required. The Japanese brand has discontinued the truly capable R6 just to introduce this one and mind you, it is going to appeal to a lot of bike enthusiasts. Finally, it’s time to introduce everyone to the 2021 Yamaha YZF-R7.

It is aggressive, good looking and power-packed. However, does all these things translates into the real world? We are here to answer that.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Yamaha has finally revealed the all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 to replace the R6.
  • It is available with a 73HP, 689cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled petrol motor.
  • Multiple features such as a projector headlamp and TFT instrument cluster are available on the R7.

To begin with, it draws a lot of design elements from its elder sibling. Firstly, the front end of the motorcycle features twin LED DRLs, a tall wind visor and air vents on both sides. Apart from this, the central air intake now houses the single projector headlamp setup. For now, the company will only be offering two colour shades on offer including Yamaha Blue and Raven Black. However, they are well known for introducing multiple colour schemes in the name of special editions.

The ride position might look aggressive in the pictures. However, according to the company, Yamaha has reworked the ergonomics just to make it user friendly on an everyday basis.

At the heart, it comes powered by the 689cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. To be precise, this is the same unit that we have earlier witnessed on the MT-07. Talking in numbers, it is truly capable of producing 73HP @ 8,750 and a peak torque of 67Nm @ 6,500 RPM while being mated to a six-speed gearbox. Yamaha has also introduced slip and assist clutch as standard while the quickshifter will be available as an additional accessory.

The kerb weight of the 2021 YZF-R7 stands at 188kgs. Meanwhile, for suspension duties, the Japanese brand has deployed a 41mm USD front fork and a link-type monoshock setup at the rear. In terms of features, it is available with a TFT screen that helps the rider with various information.

Yamaha will be launching the all-new Yamaha YZF-R7 at $8,999. However, the company has not confirmed anything regarding its launch in India yet.
