Lot of people think that the design language of the new BMW 2 Series looks very unpleasant. Well, the German brand has introduced some really striking cars before that everyone expects it to get better with time. We cannot comment on the looks right now but one thing is for sure. It gets even powerful with new chassis technology introduced this time.

Give this new design language some time as so many of them takes their own sweet time to grow upon. The updated coupe on the front sports a new kidney grille with vertical slats, a revised pair of adaptive LED headlamps and a reworked bumper. The side profile on the other hand gets 18-inch alloy wheels as standard with the top end M240i variant running on larger ones.

Talking about the dimensions, the all-new 2 Series is 105mm longer, 64mm wider and gets a 51mm longer wheelbase. Exceptions are always there and this time the coupe gets shorter by 28mm in terms of height.

Inside the cabin, it features an 8.8-inch infotainment system with a 5.1-inch multi-information display as standard. Customers who want to upgrade them will get the option to go for the BMW Live Cockpit Professional. To be precise, this package includes a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is again a typical BMW affair.

Other features including three-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, electrically adjustable driver seat and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also a part of the updated 2 Series.

Engine & Performance

Initially, BMW has decided to introduce three variants including 220i Coupe, 220d Coupe and M240i Coupe. At a later stage, the German brand has a plan to come up with the M230i trim as well.

Returning to the present, the 220i variant will be available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine good for 181BHP and 300Nm. Then comes the 220d variant, which uses a 187BHP, 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel motor. The peak torque from the same stands at 400Nm.

Last but not least is the performance-oriented M240i variant that comes with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo petrol unit. The maximum output from this motor stands at 369BHP and 500Nm allowing the new 2 Series to do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph.

According to the carmaker, all the engines are available with an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox. Meanwhile, it is the M240i variant that features the brand’s xDrive all-wheel drive powertrain.
