Interior

We recently covered the updated BMW 4 Series and surprisingly, the layout remains exactly the same with a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system as standard. Also, customers who wish to own a larger one can opt for the 12.3-inch display as well.

BMW has also announced sports seats as standard across all the variants. For starters, the updated X3 will now feature perforated seats with 3-zone climate control, start/stop button and freshly designed air vents etc just to name a few.

The introduction of BMW OS 7 will allow timely updates for the infotainment system and Maps for seamless navigation.

Engine

The most prominent change in this department is the introduction of a 48V mild-hybrid setup across all variants.

To start with, the petrol variants are currently available with 2.0-litre four-cylinder or 3.0-litre six-cylinder units. Putting everything in numbers, the 20i variant produces 184HP, 30i – 245HP while the top-end variant (M40i) churns out a massive 360HP.

Similarly, the power figure varies for the diesel variants. Where, the 20d produces 190HP, 30d – 286 HP and M40d – 450HP. Also, there will be a plug-in hybrid xDrive30e variant that churns out 292HP.

Just like the regular BMW X3, the M Competition variant uses the same layout. To be precise, almost everything remains as it is but with multiple M specific elements such as a large kidney grille, 21-inch alloy wheels, M compound brakes and M sports exhausts among others.

Under the hood, it comes powered by a trusted 510HP, 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine. However, this time, the peak torque stands at 650Nm up from 600Nm because of the revised and lightweight crankshaft. Transmission duties, for this setup, is managed by an 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox.

BMW X3 M Competition can do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.8 seconds. However, the top speed remains electronically limited to 250kmph.
