BMW X4 was something that attracted a lot of attention on the road for the owners and probably a lot more customers for the German brand. Launched as an experiment, it was one of the successful models in no time. Well for that, all credit goes to the X badging that has been the best seller segment for the carmaker since a really long time. On the practicality front, the X3 is undoubtedly a winner but the ultimate motive of introducing the X4 was to sell something striking.

The new X4 range has finally made its debut. So here introducing the 2022 BMW X4 and X4 M Competition with multiple yet important updates.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 2022 BMW X4, X4 M Competition breaks cover for the global market.
  • Multiple exteriors, as well as interior changes, are a part of the update.
  • The 2022 BMW X4 Competition can do a 0-100 sprint in 3.8 seconds.

Exterior & Design

It is the second generation model and there are plenty of changes inside out. To begin with, the front end now features a large kidney grille and a revised pair of headlamps that are precise with their beams even during adverse conditions. Customers who wish to opt for the BMW Laser Light can go for them without further ado.

The LED taillamps on the updated X4 feels effortless with the minimalistic approach. But this tidiness will cost the lower part of the bumper with dual tailpipes and reflectors. For the escape, the new set of alloy wheels is surely expected to enhance the side profile of the SUV to a greater extent.

Interior

The cabin of the updated X4 does follow BMW’s conventional approach but this time, with premium materials onboard. Inspired by the recently revealed BMW 4 Series, this SUV now features a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system for some added practicality and full-proof entertainment. Well contoured perforated seats, 3-zone climate control, fully digital instrument cluster and neatly stitched multi-functional steering wheel further makes it a world-class cabin, at least in this segment.

Engine

Too many engine options are there which at times baffle the customers a lot. For starters, there are three diesel variants including – X4 xDrive20d (190HP), X4 xDrive30d (286HP) and X4 M40d (340HP) with four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines accordingly.

Likewise, several petrol variants, precisely – X4 xDrive20i (184HP), X4 xDrive30i (245HP) and X4 M40i (360HP) are also there to create more ruckus. An 8-speed Steptronic and brand’s xDrive four-wheel drive system is available across all variants.

Meet the sportier sibling of the X4 named BMW X4 M Competition. A performance-oriented model that is powered by a six-cylinder motor similar to the X3 M Competition. Some mechanical retuning including a lightweight crankshaft and the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission is there, resulting in a massive outburst of power.  Want to take manual control? Well, a proper gear knob and paddle shifters are already there for the rescue.

Design updates are at par with the regular X4 but the M Competition model will feature multiple M-specific elements all across. Push hard onto the throttle and all these edition specific changes with full force will push the 2022 BMW X4 M Competition to clock a three-digit speed in just 3.8 seconds. Full marks to BMW for the performance part as well.

India launch for the updated BMW X4 range is not happening anytime soon. As per our intuition, customers need to wait until the end of this year to witness the new X4 here.
