Entry-level hatchbacks are making our city life a lot easier with their compact dimensions and out of the world fuel efficiency. Recently, Maruti Suzuki has decided to update their capable Celerio for the Indian market. As a result, the product has finally been launched as a rival to the Tata Tiago. Are you someone who chooses fuel efficiency over anything? Or do you classify yourself as someone who takes every factor into consideration before jumping to any conclusion?
We have tried sorting out all the information related to both hatchbacks down below. Want to learn more about them? Here take a look a look at it.
2022 Maruti Suzuki Celerio
Celerio desperately needed an update and this one does feel like a comprehensive makeover. The interior and exterior are now plusher when compared to the outgoing model but there are some areas, Maruti Suzuki could have done better. Of course, nobody’s perfect and therefore, the new Celerio feels imperfectly perfect with the mileage rated at 26.68kmpl.
The cabin of the updated hatchback now uses a minimalistic approach which at times feels dated. Thankfully, almost all the crucial features that were already available on the outgoing model are there to retain the overall practicality. To begin with, it comes with a touchscreen infotainment system, push-button start-stop, dual airbags, day-night IRVM and a powerful air conditioner depending upon the variant.
Powering the new Celerio is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine with overall output rated at 67HP and 89Nm. According to the carmaker, transmission duties for this unit are still managed by a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki is claiming it as the most fuel-efficient petrol car in India with an overall mileage of up to 26.68kmpl (ARAI certified).
Tata Tiago
A four-star Global NCAP rating and a hassle-free ownership experience are all that Tata Motors aim to offer with the all-new Tiago. Introduced back in 2016, it acted like a game-changer for Tata Motors. Since then the hatchback has received several updates and right now, it does look modern in every aspect making it a perfect rival to every other car belonging to this segment.
When compared to Celerio, the cabin of the all-new Tiago feels really upmarket. Not to forget, Tata has loaded it with several features such as a height-adjustable driver’s seat, digital instrument cluster, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, manual air conditioner and dual airbags to name a few. According to the spec sheet, the top-end variants of Tiago are also available with 8-speaker Harman surround sound system as standard.
Under the hood, Tata Tiago uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. Good for producing a decent 85HP and 113Nm of peak torque, this unit is also available with a 5-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. As per the Indian brand, Tiago returns an overall mileage of up to 23.84kmpl (ARAI certified).
