2022 Range Rover

The all-new 2022 Range Rover has made its global debut and without even a second thought, it looks absolutely staggering from all four ends. The brand claims it to be the fifth-gen model and we guess, that’s enough to tell everyone about how strong and old this legacy is. As we know, SUVs are already gaining a lot of attention in India, therefore, we expect this all-new mean machine to arrive here as well.

Want to learn more about it? Let’s check out all the details related to it down below.

What’s new?

On the outside, the changes are major but without affecting the overall design language. The front profile now features an all-new grille, sleek LED headlamps, wide air intake and new fog lamp housing. Coming to the side profile, the 2022 Range Rover features large 23-inch alloy wheels and a slightly sloping roofline when compared to the outgoing counterpart. Interestingly, at the back, the older taillamps have been removed. Instead, a new pair of vertical LED lamps have been introduced to provide the SUV with a fresh look.

Claimed dimensions for the new long-wheelbase version of the SUV stands at 5252mm (length), 2048mm (width), 1870mm (height) with the wheelbase rated at 3197mm.

The cabin does come with some minor updates. However, the silhouette remains the same with features such as a 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a slightly larger 13.7-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a new multi-functional steering wheel. Other features include a wireless smartphone charger, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 3-zone climate control, heated rear seats, etc are also part of the standard equipment list.

This time, Land Rover has decided to introduce the SV range with two new exclusive trims including ‘Intrepid’ and ‘Serenity’. The brand even claims that almost each and every variant are now available with an all-electric air suspension setup. Other than this, they will also feature terrain response with an overall water wading capacity of 900mm.

Engine & Powerplant

Frankly speaking, there are too many of them. Let’s start with the petrol variants, the P360 and P400 are now available with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine and are truly capable of producing 360PS and 400PS respectively. Both of them are also equipped with a mild-hybrid system to stay powerful while being fuel-efficient.

Coming to the most powerful P530 trim, it uses a potent 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The overall output from this unit is currently rated at a massive 530PS and 750Nm.

Surprisingly, two plug-in hybrid variants have also been introduced and according to the brand, they can return an electric range of somewhere around 100kms.

How can we miss the diesel engines! Just like the petrol one, even these are available with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit. To begin with, the D250 variant comes with an overall output of 249PS and 600Nm. Then there’s even a D300 and D350 trim that are capable of churning out a decent 300PS and 350PS respectively.

Alternatives

Globally, Range Rover compares with models like BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Lexus LX to name a few. The carmaker claims to introduce a fully-electric Range Rover in 2024. Meanwhile, SV variants will roll out from the showrooms next year.
