BMW is one of the best coupe-SUV manufacturers. Look at how the X4 and X6 are done. For instance, aren’t those perfect examples of appealing SUVs? But…those are high-end models, and not everyone is looking for that. The Indian market especially looks for entry-level luxury SUVs, and the all-new BMW X2 could fit well here. You heard that right, BMW X2. The German marque has introduced it globally in both ICE-powered and electric models, and if you are someone looking for something well-priced but at the same time imposing, this could be a right fit for you.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- 2024 BMW X2 has finally made its debut globally.
- It is an entry-level coupe SUV from the brand.
- To be available in both electric and ICE versions.
2024 BMW X2: What to expect?
The automaker says that the new X2 derives its platform from the tried and tested X1. However, it’s the X2 that looks more striking with the sloping roof line at the rear. The newly launched SUV does feel like something that you have already witnessed earlier at the front, but the side and rear profile are there to tell you that it’s not an X1.
Talking about the changes in design, the front grille of the X1 is new. Then, the side profile until the B-pillar might be familiar but after that, the design team of BMW has done a great job in differentiating both. The tailgate, tail lamps, bumper and quad exhausts provide it with a sportier appeal.
Inside the cabin, it is a typical BMW layout but as we say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, we guess BMW believes this strongly. Just like any other car from the brand, this one gets a neatly finished dashboard featuring a touchscreen infotainment system, big AC vents and a three-spoke steering wheel as standard.
BMW has also announced that it will be offering its electric version at the same time called the iX2. As per the brand, it will be available with twin motors to generate a combined output of 313 horsepower and 494Nm pushing it to clock a triple-digit speed in just 5.6 seconds. The electric SUV will be getting a WLTP claimed range between 417 to 449 kilometres.
Other than this, the ICE-powered X2 will be coming with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol and a diesel engine globally. It would be great to see a diesel variant of X2 coming to India as well.
The SUV when launched in India will be one of its type and therefore, launching it here does make sense. Now, the question remains the same, when? That only BMW can answer.
