2021 Mahindra Thar

When compared to the older one, the all-new Thar looks even mature and comes packed with several features. In terms of dimension, it is even longer and wider than the older one. The increased length and breadth has obviously resulted in a spacious cabin as well. It is available with a convertible soft top and a hardtop. Initially, Mahindra also introduced side-facing rear seats at the back. However, soon after the Global NCAP test, where the all-new Thar scored a 4-star rating, the Indian carmaker discontinued it. For now, only the front-facing seats are available as standard.

Currently, Thar is available with two variants, precisely – AX and LX. To be precise, it is the LX variant that is available with a hardtop. Feature-wise, it is no less than any modern SUV. Coming to details, it comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, signature rounded headlamps, LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels and tyre pressure monitoring system just to name a few.

Under the hood, the 2021 Mahindra Thar comes with either a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor or a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel unit. The first one is truly capable of producing 150BHP of power and 320Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the latter one is tuned to churn out 130BHP and 300Nm of torque.

The Indian brand managed to bag around 39,000 bookings in February only. Also, around 1,577 diesel models were recalled that were manufactured between 7th September to 25th December due to some minor issue. For now, the all-new Thar is doing quite well in India. Further, the carmaker is also expected to introduce the updated Mahindra Scorpio and the all-new XUV700 soon.

According to the sources, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Jimny in the Indian market. Also, it was even showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. For now, all we about the upcoming Jimny is that it comes with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine globally. Talking in numbers, it is truly capable of producing 102PS of power and 130Nm of torque while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Further, customers can also opt for a 4-speed automatic gearbox as optional. If launched in India, it will go head-on against the likes of the all-new Mahindra Thar.
