Take it as another boost for the automotive sector in India. Yes, the country now has its own high-speed multi-purpose test track.

On 29th June, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar virtually inaugurated the NATRAX keeping in mind the Automotive Mission Plan which was started earlier to boost the automotive industry in India. Situated in Agra-Mumbai Highway (NH-3), Pithampur, Indore Madhya Pradesh this track is purposely located in the centre.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • NATRAX is Asia’s longest high-speed test track (11.3kms long).
  • This all-new high-speed test track is located in Pithampur, Indore.

Currently, the track measures 11.3kms in length, spreading over an area of 1000 acres making it the longest high-speed test track in Asia. This way, it is even the fifth-longest in the world.

As mentioned on the website, this track is capable of testing extreme limits of the vehicle including maximum speed, stability and high-speed handling, fuel consumption, multi-friction braking, tyre testing and offroading as well.

The top speed on curves can be up to 375kmph with fewer bankings on the oval. Interestingly, there are no speed limits on the straight patches. It is also open for any kind of vehicle and commercial events such as product launches, events and car racing.

This new facility can also be used by global carmakers for testing their vehicles. Brands like Lamborghini, Renault, FCA and Volkswagen among others are expected to test their vehicles here while they have already registered their interest for the same. For more information click here.
