With the aim to introduce over 30 new electric cars by the end of 2025, Audi has taken another step towards this goal. To be precise, the German brand has now displayed the prototype of its upcoming Audi A6 E-Tron sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show 2021. Interestingly, this all-new electric sedan will be a perfect answer to the Tesla Model S when launched.

The upcoming Audi A6 E-Tron will be using Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. For your information, it will be the first car to use this underpinning. Also, the all-new electric sedan is expected to come with a range of over 700kms.

Audi A6 E-Tron Prototype

The PPE platform is developed by Audi and Porsche together. For your information, even Porsche electric cars are expected to use this similar platform on their upcoming offerings. Earlier, Audi has introduced several EVs based on different platforms. Dimension-wise, A6 E-Tron is 4.96 metres long, 1.96 metres wide and 1.44 metres tall. Without having any transmission tunnel, the upcoming sedan will come equipped with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive powertrain. All thanks to the dual-motor setup that will be available on each axle.

According to Audi, the upcoming A6 E-Tron will be getting a 100kWh battery that returns a claimed range of 700kms/full charge. As per the carmaker, all the upcoming PPE models are eligible for 800V charging technology. To be precise, the all-new Audi A6 E-Tron can be charged using a charger of up to 270kWh. Well, that can return a possible range of about 300kms in just 10 minutes making it more practical in today’s world.

Initially, the upcoming electric sedan will be powered by two motors. Talking in numbers, these motors are tuned to produce 476HP alongside a peak torque of 800Nm. Audi also claims that it will bring a more performance-oriented variant of the A6 E-Tron that is likely to do a 0-100kmph sprint in less than four seconds. Even the entry-level variants are capable to do the same within 7 seconds.

Alternatives

Globally, the upcoming Audi A6 E-Tron will be competing against the Tesla Model S. Apart from this, the upcoming Mercedes Benz EQE is expected to join this rivalry soon.

Tesla Model S acts as a luxury sedan for the US carmaker. For now, it is available with three variants, precisely – 75D, 100D and P100D. However, in terms of range and performance, it is the top-end P100D variant that is expected to go head-on against the likes of the upcoming Audi A6 E-Tron. The range-topping variant comes with a 100kWh battery pack that returns a claimed range of 623kms. Also, it is available with an AWD powertrain as standard that churns out a massive 503HP and 660Nm of torque.
