Mercedes-Benz India announced the launch of India’s first BS VI compliant vehicle S class in Delhi. This welcome pleasantry has sweetened our tongues almost two years ahead of schedule. Mercedes plans to put all its diesel product line-up in line with its BS VI engines with every new product in the forthcoming years.

The S-class vehicle from Benz, christened S-350, features quite a few excellent features on its exterior. The headlamps,tail-lamps and bumpers are renovated stylishly. On the inside, the infotainment system gets two 12.3 inch HD screens with a central command unit. With the S-350 going against giants in the segment like the BMW 7 series, Audi A8, Jaguar XJ and the Lexus LS 500h, these features and even more may be necessary.

Under the bonnet, the s-350 packs a new 3.0 liter inline-six, BS VI compliant diesel engine that revs upto 286 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The OM 656 motor is the most powerful diesel engine ever produced by Mercedes capable of running on BS IV fuel. Mercedes also offers a 3.0 liter V6  petrol engine that generates 367 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. Both these motors come attached to the 9-speed automatic transmission. The Bharat Stage VI engines are re-designed by Mercedes India exclusively to run on BS IV fuel in India.

In the words of Roland Folger, MD, Mercedes-Benz India, “by launching the first ever ‘made in India, for India’ BS VI car, we have set a benchmark among all car manufacturers to support the government in mitigating the rising pollution levels in the country. The new S-class brings luxury, design and technology that meet the highest standard of perfection, surpassing the expectations for a vehicle of this segment”.

The price of Mercedes-Benz s-350 D is set at Rs. 1.33 crore while the petrol variant is being offered at 1.37 crore ex-showroom New Delhi.
