BMW 740d M Sport & BMW i7 M70 xDrive: What’s new?

BMW 740d M Sport

BMW India has confirmed that the all-new diesel variant of the 7 Series is being produced locally at the Group’s Chennai Plant. With a price tag of Rs.1.81 Crores (ex-showroom, Delhi), the luxury sedan has finally got a mile-munching diesel engine.

Powering this new 740d M Sport variant is a potent 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel mill that propels 286 horsepower and 650Nm of peak torque. The diesel variant of the 7 Series was much needed as it is a perfect balance between efficiency and power. And now, with the introduction of the same, we are expected to witness a slight boost in the sales of BMW’s flagship sedan.

Coming to performance, the German automaker boasts that this new engine is capable of pushing the 740d M Sport from 0-100kmph in just 6 seconds. The top speed on the other hand is rated at 250kmph.

Unlike the 740d M Sport, the i7 M70 xDrive is currently being offered as a Completely Built-Up unit and since it is an import, a hefty price tag of Rs.2.5 Crores (ex-showroom, Delhi) was expected and it turned out to be like that.

Diving deep into the details, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive comes equipped with twin electric motors known to churn out 660 horsepower and 1100Nm of peak torque. BMW says that the torque output is class-leading and helps the all-electric luxury car to clock a triple-digit speed in just 3.7 seconds. The top speed of the i7 M70 xDrive is similar to the recently launched 740d M Sport.

Integrated on the floor, the 101.7kWh battery pack on the EV offers a range of 560 km according to WLTP. Thankfully, BMW is offering a wall box charger that can be used for charging your i7 at home with 22kW charging.

Features

There might be a slight difference in the overall package but both the electric version and ICE-powered sedans are similar in terms of features. To be precise, both of them are available with a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen, B&W Surround Sound System, Executive Lounge Seating, Driver Assistance Systems and several safety features such as Cornering Brake Control, Electric Parking Brake, side-impact protection among others.

At the time of launch, Mr Vikram Pahwa, President of BMW Group India said, “The all-new BMW 7 Series defines the ultimate luxury sedan and sets new standards of luxury and exclusivity. The 7 has bedazzled the high-end segment with its new design language, powerful dynamics, comfort and trailblazing digital experience. With the addition of the BMW i7 M70 xDrive and the BMW 740d M Sport, our flagship is now available as a petrol, diesel, electric and an all-electric performance model. This diversification allows us to cater to all customer preferences and meet the overwhelming demand for the 7 Series in the Indian market. As the vehicle of choice of leaders and luminaries with next-level style and substance, the 7 will continue to shape forwardism.”
