Last year, BMW announced that the brand has got a blueprint to introduce around 25 electric vehicles by 2025. The problem is that some of the products have been revealed globally but are still not available in India. For example, take the BMW i4 which is on sale in the UK for a significant time but the brand has still not managed to bring it here.

Surprisingly, the German marque has announced that without any further delay, it will roll out the all-new BMW i4 on 26th May. Does this upcoming electric sedan make sense? Let’s check out all the details related to it down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • BMW India is coming up with the i4 EV on 26th May.
  • It is expected to be available in multiple configurations.
  • Design language of the i4 looks similar to the 4-Series.

Enough criticising the design as the new i4 does look elegant. All right! Only from the other three ends. The oversized kidney grille will take some time to grow but it definitely looks better than what BMW is offering on the recently revealed i7.

Inside the cabin, the upcoming i4 feels like a typical German carmaker affair. The result is a premium interior with world-class features and upholstery. Also, it will be equipped with the BMW’s latest 12.3-inch and 14.6-inch screens making the cabin desirable.

Exact details related to the India-bound i4 are expected to be out soon. However, according to our sources, the German automaker might introduce this new electric sedan in two different variants. The configuration of both the variants will differ and that’s how BMW is planning to differentiate both of them.

Starting with the eDrive40, this model will be arriving with a single motor on the rear axle that churns out a decent 340 horsepower and 430Nm of peak torque. Then, there’s a powerful M50 xDrive model with twin electric motors that produce a combined output rated at 544 horsepower and 795Nm. Performance-wise both of them are well-calibrated. As a result, the former variant can clock a triple-digit speed in 5.7 seconds while the latter one can do the same in just 3.9 seconds.

Now, with power comes responsibility and that’s the only reason why both the variants are available with a potent 83.9kWh battery pack. As per the brand, the WLTP range from the eDrive 40 variant stands at 590km while the performance-oriented M5 xDrive returns an overall range of 510km.

Charging might be an issue in India as the charging infrastructure is still in a growing phase. For an idea, the global version of the i4 is available with a port that supports multiple rates of charging. The rivals including Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3 are also up to par in terms of performance but sadly, both the brands have still not entered the Indian market.
