Mahindra has upgraded its new XUV500 to new emission standards. The three-rowed SUV prices now range from Rs 13.20 lakhs for the lower W5 variant to Rs 17.70 lakhs for the top-end W11 (O) trim, which is the Ex-showroom, Delhi. The entry-level W3 is far from being the minimum drive option at the moment. The XUV500 is now only available with a diesel-manual combination. For example, the BS6 XUV500 costs around Rs 29,000-32,000 for equivalent versions of the BS4-spec vehicle.

The updated XUV500 takes on the 2.2-liter diesel of the previous model, with an adjustment to wash out the tailpipe emissions. At 155hp and 360Nm, maximum power and peak torque, the figures nearly remain unchanged. The transmission functions are only handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox, although it is expected that the Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic will return later in the upcoming model. The XUV500 series has an earlier 2.2-liter turbo-petrol engine and is, therefore, an option for all-wheel drive (AWD) functionality, which is only available on the diesel model. However, both options had been removed from the model lineup in 2019, as per reports.

Apart from all these mechanical upgrades, there is no change in the new upcoming BS-VI variant of XUV500 in terms of kit. Standard safety features include dual airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminders, and a high-speed warning system are carried as usual. In contrast, the higher variants include four more airbags, ESP, Hill-Start Assist, and Hill-Descent Control. In terms of convenience, the W11 (O) topping range consists of a sunroof, keyless entry and go, automatic aircon, 7.0-inch touchscreen, and Android DRL with projector headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, and leatherhead upholstery.

The XUV500 competes directly in our Indian market with other diesel-manual SUVs such as Tata Harrier (13.69-18.95 lakhs *) and MG Hector (Rs 13.88-17.73 lakhs).
