Skoda aims to rule the segment with the upcoming Kushaq. Kid you not, this doesn’t sound surprising at all. The first look of the SUV has already created a ruckus for its competitors and mind you, the pricing is expected to further blow them away. The hype is real but it cannot take further damage from the delayed launch. Keeping this in mind, the Czech brand has decided to roll out the new SUV on 28th June, this year only.

Still not aware of what the upcoming Kushaq is all about? Well, learning never ends and before the launch happens, introducing the most awaited SUV of the decade – the new Skoda Kushaq.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Czech brand has scheduled the launch of Kushaq on 28th June.
  • It will be available with either a 1.0-litre TSI or a 1.5-litre TSI engine.
  • The upcoming SUV will rival the well established Kia Seltos in India.

All-New Skoda Kushaq

The name means emperor and so does its first impression in our mind. But wait, what makes it so impressive? A signature Skoda grille, sleek LED headlamps (under which sits the fog lights) and a large air intake on the bumper gets half the job done for the Czech brand. The side profile is no less with a set of 16/17-inch alloy wheels, rear quarter glass and functional roof rails on top. Other minor detailings including the silver skid plate, rear diffuser and a tidy tailgate further adds to the simplicity.

A lot of effort can be witnessed even inside the cabin. Unlike the usual Skodas, this one uses premium materials and the carmaker even claims it to be the most spacious in its segment. The instrument cluster is sadly an analogue unit but a small MID screen is still there to redress its absence. Other features including a two-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, wireless charger, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, wireless charging pad, electric sunroof and multiple USB-C ports are there keeping in mind even the smallest requirement of the customers.

Choosing a perfect powertrain is not that confusing. The discontinuation of diesel motors will ultimately lead to either a 1.0-litre TSI or a 1.5-litre TSI engine. The latter one makes more sense with power figures standing at 150PS and 250Nm. It is convenient to go for the 7-speed DSG transmission but just in case the inner enthusiast arises one can definitely choose the 6-speed manual gearbox anytime.

A fuel-efficient 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI motor is also there to propel 115PS and 175Nm. You get the option to choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox with this powerplant, again full marks for the practicality.

Alternatives

The carmaker has deliberately pitched it against the Korean siblings – Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Just like this pair, even Kushaq alongside the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will compete against them in the Indian market. Want to know more about the chartbuster Kia Seltos? Here are the important details one should definitely know.
