Sports utility vehicles make sense when they are utilised in every possible way. Be it a basic everyday ride, long highway tours, enough space, undisputed off-road capability or a lot of road presence. The reason behind this saying is: in recent times they have become hard to afford and cost almost what an entry-level luxury car would cost. Now it’s time we talk about what we are here for.

Recently, MG Motors has updated its full-size SUV lineup with the all-new MG Gloster Blackstorm Edition. Basically, it is a special edition of the already existing Gloster with cosmetic enhancements to give it a sportier appeal.

Is the MG Gloster Blackstorm Edition a sensible option for you? Let’s head forward to find out.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • MG Gloster is now available in Blackstorm Edition.
  • Has made its debut with a darkened theme inside out.
  • Price of the SUV starts at Rs.40.29 Lakh onwards.

Exterior

On the outside, the changes are quite visible with the introduction of two new shades called Metal Black and Metal Ash. Other than these paint shades, several elements have been reworked in either black or red to give the SUV a sportier appeal. The carmaker has also dropped the extensive use of chrome and the honeycomb grille at the front is now finished in black.

To match the overall theme, Gloster Blackstorm runs on darkened alloy wheels as standard.

The cabin of the Gloster Blackstorm is familiar but now features a dark theme, just what we witnessed on the outside. The upholstery is now black but with red stitching to complement the exterior. Other than this, the 64-colour ambient lighting is there to illuminate the cabin along with features such as a massive panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver’s seats, massage function for the same and ADAS among others.

Engine

In terms of changes, the SUV does feel sportier but if we talk about the performance it has remained unchanged.

Powering the special edition Gloster are MG Motors’ 163HP and 218HP, 2.0-litre turbo and twin-turbocharged diesel engines. So basically, it depends upon the variant and buyer’s discretion but if you want us to be precise, the 2WD gets the former while the 4WD version comes with the latter option.

In India, MG Gloster competes with full-size SUVs such as Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Jeep Meridian. Want to know the exact price of the Gloster Blackstorm? Check out the variant-wise list below for some clarity.
