Just like any other industry, even the automotive world is evolving rapidly. The amount of resources a company puts into R&D these days is shocking and every time they launch a new product in the market, there is something new that we would not have been able to think otherwise. Once again, Tata Motors have come up with a CNG-powered car and this time, without compromising the boot space.

The news is Tata Motors is now accepting bookings for Altroz iCNG against a token amount of Rs.21,000 and this also confirms that the launch is around the corner.

Want to learn more about this new product? Here are all the details related to it down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Tata Altroz iCNG is about to make its debut in India.
  • Available with two cylinders for CNG below the boot.
  • Powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine.

Until now, the absence of boot space was a matter of concern for CNG car buyers but that is no longer the case as Tata Motors has revealed how it will work. The automaker has deployed two cylinders just below the boot floor with a 60kg capacity (30+30).

Altroz iCNG has a new ‘Single Advanced ECU’ to offer a stutter-free experience when the mode is shifted from petrol to CNG or vice versa.

The ‘Direct start in CNG mode’ is one of its types and therefore, the carmaker is ensuring that the hatchback is available with thermal incident protection and gas leak detection as standard.

Engine & Powertrain

Under the hood, Altroz iCNG will get the same old 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that churns 86 horsepower and 113Nm (petrol mode). However, if used in the CNG mode, the output is down to 77 horsepower and 113Nm.

Sadly, the only issue here is that it still lacks the automatic gearbox like any other CNG-powered car in India. However, including the same could have been the brand’s unique selling proposition (USP).

Currently, customers will have to make peace with a 5-speed manual gearbox as confirmed by Tata Motors.

The all-new Altroz iCNG will be available in four shades: Avenue White, Arcade Grey, Downtown Red and Opera Blue. Similarly, four trim levels (XE, XM+, XZ and XZ+) are also expected to roll out from the showrooms. A 3-year/1,00,000 km standard warranty will be there across the range to offer a hassle-free experience to upcoming buyers.
