Exactly 10 months ago, Ferrari came up with the 296 GTB supercar to mark its first step towards electrification. Back then, nobody could have ever thought of a drop-top version of the same but the Italian brand has a lot of history related to convertible supercars and if you think, that a convertible GTB 296 doesn’t make sense then, you need to take a look at the all-new Ferrari GTS 296 which is indeed a drop-top version of the same.
Want to learn more about this new supercar? Take a look at it down below.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- A drop-top version of the truly capable 296 GTB has been revealed.

- Features the same 664 BHP, 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
Ferrari 296 GTS
The all-new 296 GTS is definitely going to remind you of the coupe version of the same until the roof is closed. As soon as it is opened, the difference is clear. Several changes have been made to the rear deck that now stores the roof once it is opened. The roof on the 296 GTS is a hardtop unit and that’s why there is even a new third window. Ferrari claims that this setup is similar to what we have earlier witnessed on the SF90 Spider as well.
The difference that’s not visible is the overall weight. When compared to the weight of the coupe, this drop-top version is 70kgs heavier. Thankfully, the carmaker has retained the Assetto Fiorano package on the GTS 296. Opting for this package will unlock features such as Multimatic shock absorbers and performance-oriented Michelin tyres among others.
The roof is obviously retractable and as per the Italian brand, it takes around 14 seconds to complete the entire process of opening or closing. It can also be done while driving but due to safety reasons, Ferrari has confirmed that the speed should remain within 45kmph while doing the same.
You might be aware of what 296 stands for if you’re a frequent reader of TIW. But, if not, we are definitely going to help you with that. To begin with, the all-new 296 GTS comes powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine that works in conjunction with an electric motor to push out a massive 819 horsepower and 740Nm of peak torque. This way, the initials of displacement and six cylinders play a major role in naming the all-new 296 series. Hope we have earned a frequent reader now!
Coming to the claims, Ferrari confirms that this all-new sports car is capable of clocking a triple-digit speed in just 2.9 seconds. The top speed is also impressive and to be a little more precise, it stands at 330kmph.
Is it coming to India? Well, the 296 GTB is scheduled to launch this year and that’s how we can say that Ferrari is willing to come with the all-new 296 GTS later this year.
