“Flying cars” speeding across US skies in a decade- predicted by Uber Technologies Inc.’s Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi.

“There will be people flying around Dallas, Texas,” Khosrowshahi said at the DLD Tech Conference in Munich. “I think it’s going to happen within the next 10 years” stated Khosrowshahi. He was making his first appearance in Europe after taking over the top job from the former CEO Travis Kalanick in June 2017. Dara Khosrowshahi is an Iranian-American businessman and was the former CEO of Expedia INC., a global travel company.

Due to the congested cities across the globe, the CEO hopes to increase the number of electronic vehicles. Fully autonomous taxis are still 10 to 15 years away, as there is a lot to do about 3D mapping for the streets and sensors are still too expensive, he said. Uber plans on expanding to more cities in Germany this year, and there are new plans for London as well.

Angry local taxi drivers demonstrated outside Uber, putting up their grievances that they have eaten their businesses and livelihood. Responding to these charges, Khosrowshahi stated: “We are now going from growth at all cost to responsible growth.” Uber has committed to doing “the right thing, period.”
