The confirmation that Ford would return to India is still farsighted. But, the developments around it seem to be recurring every now and then. A close source to the American auto giant, this time, has hinted that Ford is not interested in coming back with older models like Figo, Aspire, Freestyle and EcoSport, at least for now. Instead, it would prefer a new strategy.

Of course, it is because of what happened earlier, and now a different approach can only help them. While Ford has no intention to return back to India with affordable models, the Endeavour, along with its pickup avatar – the Ranger, are the first few choices when we talk about ICE-powered products. The electric portfolio of the brand will ultimately follow.

Back in 2021, Ford India exited, citing slow sales and thin profit margins in the mass market segments. Therefore, it is better not to repeat those same mistakes. To make business better, Ford has sold its Sanand facility to Tata Motors. Further, there were rumours that Ford was willing to sell the Maraimalai Nagar Facility in Tamil Nadu.

The carmaker might not return with these popular names for the Indian market. However, the good news is that it has trademarked a few new names, meaning some exciting products are in the pipeline. The brand can also use the CBU route to bring some global products in the near future, and Everest/Ranger would use this same route during the initial days.

The setup of local manufacturing is still expected to take a little more time.
