A renowned name in the automobile industry, “Mercedes Benz” has announced a news India should be proud of. The Mercedes GLC will now be assembled locally in Pune. Not only does this spell huge reduction in the price tag, it also adds an advantage of pride to own a car made in india.

The Mercedes GLC will be available in two diesel variants and one petrol variant, prices ranging between INR 48 Lakhs – INR 51 Lakhs. The diesel variant packs a 2,143 cc turbo diesel four cylinder engine and the Mercedes GLC petrol packs a 1,991 cc turbocharged four cylinder engine. All three models are paired to a 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox as well as a 4MATIC AWD system with DYNAMIC SELECT.

Another key factor why this car stands out among the rest, is because of it’s collision safetyThe Mercedes GLC earned a maximum five stars in Euro NCAP’s industry standard crash tests, outscoring its rivals in every key area.

Mercedes The GLC’s dash layout vastly echoes the dash of the Mercedes C-class”, which in turn means it’s a very clean and classy affair. The tablet-style screen that pops out above the central air vents won’t be to all tastes, but it is faultlessly functional. Also the GLC’s seats are extremely comfortable and can be adjusted electronically.

The 2.1-litre diesel engine is not the quietest one on sale. Though the standard nine-speed automatic gearbox helps to keep things reasonably hushed once on the moveI feel it’s too many gears!! . For me, it drastically reduces the quality of the drive, the pizzazz for me is just gone. But combined with pretty well contained levels of road and wind noise, it makes the Mercedes GLC a good car to tackle long journeys. This car though, I shan’t recommend to race enthusiasts.

Mercedes GLC with a stronger package is a credible rival to the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60 and many other cars in and above its price range. To reiterate the price of the car is more frugal compared to it’s rivals as it will be manufactured in India. With the ample ground clearance it can easily negotiate Indian roads. For a comfortable drive around town, daily usage and occasional trips it is the car you should consider strongly.
