Harley Davidson has a knack of naming its engines in a dramatic, Liam Neeson-voiced fashion. First, there was the Evolution, which earned its name as it was a huge development in terms of engines. Then came the V-Rod’s Revolution engine, which changed the game for Harley. Revolution X, the next model, was aimed at the youth and now, according to a recent trademark filing, the “Revelation” has arrived to lift up Harley.

The trademark filing states that the Revelation was filed for an electric plant and that the trademark is for “Batteries for vehicles; electric batteries for powering electric vehicles; power-trains for vehicles; engines for motorcycles; transmissions for motorcycles electric drive for vehicles”. Phew! That was lengthy!

Harley-Davidson recently made the world gasp by putting its Project LiveWire, which was started way back in 2010, back on. This would mean that H-D electric bike would be rolling out of showrooms within 18 months. The electric H-D’s will not have the same rumble as that of a Harley V-twin engines and its engine will be a totally different one. Harley is reportedly planning to launch 100 new high-impact motorcycles, train 2 million new U.S riders and grow international business to 50% of sales over the next ten years.

Harley Davidson’s first electric vehicle, the LiveWire, uses a tablet style instrument panel to show speed and battery charge. Harley is currently touring the U.S with demonstration models to see the amount of public interest in these type of vehicles. Thousands of riders have test-ridden the bike that’s been on tour as Harley gathered critical customer feedback.

Although it took long enough for Harley Davidson to step into the electric vehicles domain, stalwarts like Harley putting their money and resources on electric engines is a huge boost to the sector. The dictionary defines revelation as “the divine disclosure to humans of something related to human existence”. We do hope it stays true to its meaning.
