Small displacement bikes are getting popular day by day. Want to know why? First of all, this might not be true for the global market. However, in India, people prefer them because of the low ownership cost. To be precise, they are fuel-efficient and are easier to maintain. Also, such kind of bikes incurs lower taxes rates, insurance cost and interest on loans.
Recently, Husqvarna has launched the all-new Svartpilen 125 in Europe. Interestingly, the production for the smaller displacement bike has already started at Bajaj’s Chakan facility, Maharastra. So does that means it is coming to India? Well, most probably and the bike manufacturer is expected to price very aggressively.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 125
To begin with, the all-new Husky looks absolutely similar to its elder siblings. Precisely, it is the rounded LED headlamp, sculpted fuel tank and step-up seat that helps the Svartpilen 125 to retain its iconic look. In terms of features, the smaller displacement bike gets a digital instrument console, side exhaust and 17-inch spoke wheels.
As mentioned, it will be available with a KTM sourced 125cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. Talking in numbers, the engine is retuned to produce 15HP @ 9250 RPM and 12Nm of peak torque @ 8000 RPM while being mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Further, Husqvarna also claims that the Svartpilen 125 gets a top speed of 100kmph.
Mechanically, it comes with a 43mm WP Apex fork up front while at the back, there is a preload-adjustable monoshock unit. In a similar way, the upcoming Svartpilen 125 will be available with 320mm disc (front) and 230mm disc (rear). To further enhance the stopping power, Husqvarna has decided to offer dual-channel ABS as well.
For now, only Svartpilen 125 has been introduced with a 125cc engine. However, we expect the Vitpilen to join this segment soon. Husqvarna will be exporting both the bikes to Europe as CBU units.

Bajaj recently launched the all-new Pulsar NS125 with a price tag of Rs.93,690 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Just like any other bike manufacturer, the Indian brand has introduced it to attract young customers. To begin with, Pulsar NS 125 gets signature V-shaped headlamps, a sculpted fuel tank and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Sadly, it is not available with ABS.
At the heart, this bike gets a 124cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 12BHP of power and 11Nm of torque while being mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
