New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) reached Latin America and the Caribbean shores back in 2010 with a mindset to push car manufacturers to build safer cars for both regions. Recently, the same body tested Hyundai Verna and the results are finally out.
According to the Latin NCAP crash test reports, the aforementioned model has performed poorly with an overall zero safety ratings. Precisely, Verna has bagged a 9.23 percent score for adult protection and a 12.68 percent score for child occupant’s safety which needs to be considered seriously.

The model that is tested needs to have some basic safety equipment. According to the reports, Hyundai Verna that went for this crash test was equipped with a single front airbag, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seat belt on either end and seat belt waring.
At the time of front impact, the sedan showed adequate protection to some regions. However, it was the chest protection that was not proper. Thankfully, the bodyshell was rated stable and could have resisted more impact which is good news. Pedestrian safety according to them was adequate enough. The overall score for the adult occupant safety was rated at 9.23 percent. Meanwhile, for child occupants, it was slightly better at 12.68 percent.
The area of improvement is obviously an increment in safety aids such as multiple airbags, and ESC as standard. According to the testing body, the score would remain the same with dual airbags as well.
Other details
This sedan is also available in India and to be precise, it is better equipped with lots of safety aids, including multiple airbags (at least dual airbags as standard), ABS with EBD, speed alert and parking sensors depending upon the variant.
Just like any other premium sedan, Hyundai has even equipped it with several modern features to stay relevant in today’s world. To name a few, it comes loaded with a semi-digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, electric boot and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Under the hood, it is still available with a petrol as well as a diesel engine that allows customers to choose the variant according to their requirements.
