The Government of India is about to introduce the Bharat NCAP, but before that, the Global NCAP will still conduct crash tests of a few vehicles until the former does not come into play properly. The result is that the new-gen Hyundai Verna has been recently crowned as one of the safest C-segment sedans in India as the car managed to score a full five-star rating in Adult Occupant and Child Occupant Protection.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Hyundai Verna scores a full five-star rating in the Global NCAP.
  • It was tested for Adult Occupant and Child Occupant Protection.
  • A 5-star rating could not lead to a stable bodyshell and footwell.

Hyundai Verna: The Latest Entrant To 5-Star Club

As we already know, Global NCAP tests both front and side impact protection of all the models they have tested yet, and Hyundai Verna was no different. Under the #SaferCarsForIndia campaign, Global NCAP mandates all the vehicles that are to be tested should be available with Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

The testing body has also confirmed that the model of Hyundai Verna that was tested was a basic one and only has passive safety aids. For instance, it was loaded with six airbags and ESC and that continues as standard across the entire range.

Talking a little about the test, the car was rated with 5-stars for both Adult and Child Occupants. However, if we talk about the structure both – the footwell and the bodyshell was rated unstable.

Global NCAP also tested the side impact of the new-gen Verna but in the first go it showed the Child Restraint Failure (CRS). This was however retested and with a higher energy impact test, the same worked well.

At the time of the announcement, Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Global NCAP said, “Global NCAP welcomes Hyundai to the five-star club in the Indian market. This relevant result confirms the manufacturer’s policy of improving safety performance in emerging markets. The effort to bring these improvements from the basic version is a remarkable step forward. We encourage Hyundai to continue in this line and bring the highest safety performance to the most affordable models and improve the availability of ADAS technologies in its entire model range worldwide.”
