Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced earlier this month that it would be launching its Jeep Compass Trailhawk variant in India this year. A solitary unit of the new Jeep Compass with a copper brown shade has reportedly been spotted in India, dispelling any doubts of its launch here.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has a rugged looking front bumper with a bulb-shaped bumper cladding. The ORVM covers are colored in black and there is also a black stripe on the bonnet, giving it a sportier look. Enhancing this look are the 17 inch alloys all-terrain 225/60 R17 tyres. The center part of the hood gets a matte black decal, has a redesigned front bumper and Jeep’s signature red tow hooks are eye-catching. The interior contains FCA’s flagship 8.4 inch touchscreen infotainment system
The Trailhawk model released in the U.S back in 2017 came with the 2.4 liter Tigershark engine, but this engine will not be available in the Indian release.The Jeep model relasing in India is likely to have 2-liter, 4-cylinder Turbocharged engine paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox
Manufacturing of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk began back in 2017 at FCA’s Ranjagoan facility near Pune from where it is exported to Australia and other countries which drive right-handed. While ostly providing a 2.4 liter petrol engine, the Australian variant features a 2.0 liter Multijet diesel motor. Besides the 9- speed auto, Jeep could also offer the regular automatic four wheel drive option for people looking for a diesel automatic SUV. The trailhawk gets four additional underbody skid plates to protect mechanical bits on off-road rides.
The Compass is presently available in three variants: Sport, Longitude and Limited. Once the Trailhawk releases, it will jump to the category of top variant of Jeep in India. The price of the muscular off-roader is currently expected to be in the bracket o 23 lakh to 26 lakh, which puts it in direct competition with the Tuscon, Isuzu MU-X and the Honda CR-V.
