Land Rover has finally launched the all-new Defender in a diesel guise. Meanwhile, the British carmaker has priced the 2021 Defender 90 Diesel at Rs.94.36 Lakhs (ex-showroom) for the entry-level SE variant. Whereas, Defender 110 Diesel SE will be available at a premium of Rs.97.03 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Apart from this, Land Rover has not introduced any updates or changes on the all-new SUV.

Land Rover Defender Diesel
Initially, Land Rover Defender was only available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine in India. However, with the introduction of the diesel motor, Land Rover has almost completed its portfolio for the Defender trim. At the heart, it gets a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder diesel engine that is capable of producing a massive 300PS of power alongside 650Nm of torque. The newly launched SUV comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with a four-wheel drive powertrain as standard.
Performance-wise, Defender 90 can easily do a 0-100kmph sprint in just 6.7 seconds. Meanwhile, Defender 110 does the same sprint in somewhere around 7 seconds. The top speed of both the SUVs on the other hand stands at 191kmph.
In terms of features, the 2021 Land Rover Defender Diesel will get the exact same features just like its petrol counterpart. The list includes rain-sensing wipers, LED headlights with DRLs, heated wing mirrors and LED taillamps to name a few. Meanwhile, inside the cabin, it comes with a 10-inch Pivi Pro infotainments system, three-zone climate control, 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats among others.

Alternatives
There are no direct rivals present for the Land Rover Defender in India. However, in terms of off-road capability, it will compete against the likes of the Jeep Wrangler.
Jeep Wrangler
Jeep is ready to reveal the ‘Made in India’ Jeep Wrangler on 15th March. However, currently, it is the CBU unit that is available for sale in India with a starting price tag of Rs.63.94 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, when assembled locally, it will become more affordable than ever and therefore will have the upper hand for sure.
