Slowly but steadily, Volkswagen is marching forward as per its SUVW strategy. The introduction of this new strategy was a must as the demand for SUVs has been increasing over the past few years.  If one remembers, the German carmaker managed to sell the first lot of T-Roc within a month. Well, that forced Volkswagen to reintroduce the T-Roc again. However, this time the carmaker has priced it at a premium of Rs.21.35 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Not to forget, this price tag is currently under the introductory price offer.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Volkswagen to reintroduce the 2021 Volkswagen T-Roc in India on 1st April.
  • Limited units of the all-new T-Roc will be coming to India via the CBU route.
  • The German carmaker has priced it at a premium of Rs.21.35 Lakhs.

2021 Volkswagen T-Roc

Not much has changed on the all-new Volkswagen T-Roc except the price tag. It is now costlier by somewhere around Rs.1.36 Lakhs when compared to its outgoing counterpart. Also, the carmaker has already started accepting the bookings for the same against a token amount of Rs.51,000.

Mechanically, the 2021 Volkswagen T-Roc remains unchanged. It is still available with a powerful 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This petrol motor is extremely capable of producing 150HP alongside a peak torque of 250Nm while being mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. Surprisingly, Volkswagen is offering the cylinder deactivation technology for this engine that will remain helpful in terms of fuel efficiency.

Feature-wise, owners will get dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, large 17-inch alloy wheels, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and full LED lighting setup to name a few. Also, multiple dual-tone colour options including Energetic Orange, Ravenna Blue, Indium Grey, Pure White and Kurkuma Yellow will be available on the all-new T-Roc.

Not to forget, Volkswagen will offer multiple safety features on the updated SUV. To begin with, it comes with 6 airbags, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESC, EBD, etc. among others.

Alternatives

In India, Volkswagen T-Roc will go head-on against the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.

Jeep Compass

With a four-wheel drive powertrain, Jeep Compass is one of the best mid-size SUVs available in India. The American carmaker has recently launched the updated Compass with an all-new cabin. And this time, it is all about premium aesthetics and luxury on the inside. Currently, there are two engine options available. Meanwhile, the brand has priced the 2021 Jeep Compass at Rs.16.99 Lakhs to Rs.28.29 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Specifications

  • Engine – 1956cc (Diesel); 1368cc (Petrol)
  • Power – 168BHP (Diesel); 160BHP (Petrol)
  • Torque – 350Nm (Diesel); 250Nm (Petrol)
  • Price – 16.99 Lakhs to Rs.28.29 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai Tucson is one of the most underrated mid-size SUV. It is comfortable, modern and has got a lot of road presence. However, the pricing of the all-new Hyundai Tucson is considerably high which leads to poor sales figures. Just like the Jeep Compass, it is also available with two engines on offer. Also, customers can choose the top-spec variant with a four-wheel drive powertrain.

Specifications

  • Engine – 1995cc (Diesel); 1999cc (Petrol)
  • Power – 182BHP (Diesel); 149BHP (Petrol)
  • Torque – 400Nm (Diesel); 192Nm (Petrol)
  • Price – Rs.22.55 Lakhs to Rs.27.33 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)
