The company has not yet revealed the details of the upcoming Wrangler. However, it is expected to be a facelifted version of the fourth-generation off-roader. Interestingly, Jeep India has already started accepting bookings for the same.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Jeep is all set to launch the ‘Made in India’ Jeep Wrangler for the Indian market.
  • Customers can now book the all-new Jeep Wrangler.
  • Details related to the upcoming off-roader will be revealed at the time of launch.

What to expect from the upcoming Jeep Wrangler?

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was available as a CBU unit in the Indian market with a price tag starting at Rs.63.94 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Meanwhile, the engine that powers it is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit. Also, it is capable of producing a massive 268HP alongside a peak torque of 400Nm while being mated to an 8-speed torque converter gearbox. Apart from this, the Wrangler range comes with four-wheel drive powertrain as standard.

Inside the cabin, it offer features such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, 7-.0-inch MID display, multiple charging ports and rear AC vents among others. Also, this touchscreen infotainment system supports Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. Further, safety features including four airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control and ESC were also available on the imported Wrangler.

After the Unlimited variant, Jeep introduced a more off-road centric Wrangler Rubicon in India. Surprisingly, the Rubicon variant comes powered by the same engine. However, it comes equipped with mud-terrain tyres and 17-inch alloy wheels that enhance its offroad capability to a greater extent.

The cost of the upcoming Jeep Wrangler is expected to decrease exponentially due to lower taxation. However, when taking in numbers, let us assume that Jeep India will price the upcoming Wrangler under Rs.64 Lakhs.

Alternatives

The ‘Made in India’ Jeep Wrangler will directly go head-on against the likes of Land Rover Defender and Mercedes Benz G-Class. Meanwhile, it seems that the upcoming Wrangler will have the upper hand in terms of pricing when compared to its rivals. However, before jumping to any conclusion do give a look at what its rivals have got to offer.

  • Land Rover Defender – Land Rover has recently revealed a more powerful V8 variant of the Defender. However, the regular variant still posses the VFM factor. The all-new Land Rover Defender is available in two trims including – Defender 90 and 110. Currently, it is the Defender 110 that is available in India and it comes with multiple engine options to choose from including diesel as well as petrol.
  • Mercedes Benz G-Class – Have you ever heard this phrase ‘Drive German’? Well, being a German car with a robust stance makes the Mercedes Benz G-Class irreplaceable. However, in India, it comes with a starting price tag of Rs.1.62 Crore (ex-showroom) onwards. Therefore, in terms of pricing, the upcoming Jeep Wrangler still remains an affordable choice.
