Maruti Suzuki 1.5L Diesel EngineImage Source: Indian Autos Blog

Missing the diesel variants of your favourite Maruti Suzuki cars? Well, here’s a piece of good news for you. Maruti Suzuki has decided to reintroduce its 1.5L diesel engine back. However, this time it will be complying with the BS6 emission norms. Earlier, Maruti Suzuki discontinued the diesel variants from its entire lineup just because the cost for degradation was significantly higher. However, now it seems that the demand for diesel engines is soaring high and to counter it MS is all set to relaunch certain cars with a diesel variant.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Maruti Suzuki is all set to reintroduce the 1.5L diesel engine in India.
  • The carmaker will offer this diesel engine on multiple cars available in the lineup.
  • It will still continue to produce 95HP and 225Nm of torque as per the prediction.

Coming to the power figures, the engine is expected to come with the same number as before. Earlier, the 1.5-litre diesel unit produced 95HP and 225Nm of peak torque and was available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. In the BS4 era, this motor used to power the Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Ertiga. However, as we know, a comeback is always greater than a setback and therefore we expect the same engine to power multiple cars in the lineup including :

  • S-Cross
  • Vitara Brezza
  • XL6
  • Ciaz, etc.

With the discontinuation of the diesel variants, many customers were unhappy all because of the availability of lesser options. However, many carmakers were still offering diesel engines even at that period to offer as many options as possible to their customers. With the reintroduction of the diesel engine in India, we expect Maruti Suzuki to rule the passenger vehicle segment again.
