Toyota GT86 is gone. But, it has gone for good. Sounds crazy? Not anymore. Because the car that replaces it will surely sound like a crazy deal for car enthusiasts. Toyota has finally introduced the all-new GR 86 globally. And this time, it does look modern when compared to its outgoing sibling, at least from the outside.

To recall, the GT86 used to come with a 2.0-lite four-cylinder boxer engine. It was tuned in such a way to produce 197BHP of power and 205Nm of torque. Well, the Japanese car manufacturer has shown this engine the way to exit. It has now been replaced by a more powerful 2.4-litre naturally aspirated engine. Want to learn more about the Toyota GR 86? We have covered all the details just for you.

Dimensionally, it is 4265mm long. The height and the wheelbase for this same car stand at 1310mm and 2575mm respectively. As claimed by the carmaker, the driving dynamics of the GR 86 is even better when compared to the older GT86. This way, the updated car now weighs lesser than its outgoing counterpart. The current weight of the Toyota GR 68 stands at 1270 kgs.

Even after the all-new sports car by Toyota is performance-oriented. But still, it is available with a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system to name a few. According to the Japanese carmaker, the dashboard layout is more driver-focused. Also, it will be available with Subaru’s driver assistance system.

Unlike the GT86 and BRZ that used to come with a 2.0-litre unit, the all-new GR 86 will now get a Subaru sourced 2.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. This motor is tuned to produce 235HP and a peak torque of 249Nm. Evidently, the power has increased dramatically when compared to the older 200HP and 205Nm. For now, the all-new performance car comes with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

Performance-wise, the Toyota GR 86 can go from a standstill to 100kmph in just 6.3 seconds. Well, that is quicker by 1.1 seconds when compared to its outgoing predecessor.

Despite being a hatchback, Focus ST still continues to rival the GR 86 just because of its powerful engine. On papers, it might look more agile when compared to the GR 86. But, that is just because  Focus ST comes with a turbocharged petrol engine. Meanwhile, Toyota has replaced the old turbo petrol with a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated engine. Interestingly, Ford is evaluating Focus ST for the Indian market.
