The price tag of the all-new Mercedes-AMG A45 S might look massive, all thanks to import duties that have been levied on this new hatchback. Sadly, the German brand has introduced it as a CBU unit and that’s the sole reason why it is so expensive. Priced at Rs.79.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India), the all-new A45 S is currently one of the most exciting hatchbacks that are available in India. Want to learn more about it? Check out all the details related to it down below.

On the outside, it looks similar to the latest-gen A-Class that was launched earlier. Just to differentiate, the front end of this new hatchback now features an edition specific radiator grille, sleek LED headlamps, large air intakes and a lowered bumper.

The arches on the side profile are now fitted with larger 19-inch forged alloy wheels. Similarly, at the back, the brand has decided to use split taillamps with a wider bumper for a sportier look. The A5 S also comes with quad tailpipes to further enhance the overall road presence. Available in several shades including Designo Patagonia Red, Mountain Grey, Sun Yellow, Polar White, Cosmos Black and Designo Mountain Grey Magno, it looks absolutely stunning from all four ends.

The cabin layout of the A45 S feels like a typical Mercedes-AMG affair. Offered with a set of sportier seats (front) and a multifunctional steering wheel, it is going to keep on reminding you that this is something special. Other features including red seat belts, Nappa leather upholstery, 12-speaker Burmester surround sound system, etc are also there to enhance the practicality inside the cabin.

Hardware & Safety Aids

For an unmatched driving experience, it comes with the AMG suspension setup. To be precise, these units are obviously frequency selective shock absorbers and are offered with AMG Torque Control as standard.

To keep the occupants safe, Mercedes is offering a host of safety aids including multiple airbags, Blind Spot Assist, Lane-Keep Assist and six drive modes including – Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, Individual and Slipper. Surprisingly, it even gets a drift mode in case you decide to drive like a hooligan.

Engine & Performance

The engine on the all-new A45 S is here to baffle everyone. Being a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit, it can produce a massive 421PS @ 6750 RPM and 500Nm @ 5000-5250RPM while being mated to an 8-speed DCT gearbox. Interestingly, the brand claims it to be the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever made. Not to forget, this new hot hatch is available with an all-wheel-drive system as standard.

As per the spec sheet, Mercedes-AMG A45 S can clock a triple-digit speed in just 3.9 seconds with a top speed rated at 270kmph (electronically limited).

Alternatives

Globally, Mercedes-AMG A45 S goes head-on against the Audi RS 3 Sportback. Also, since there’s no direct rival to the A45 S in India, here’s take a look at the upcoming RS 3 Sportback right here.

Audi recently updated its truly capable RS 3 Sportback and interestingly, the hatchback is now available with a 2.5-litre five-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. With overall output rated at 400HP and 500Nm, this one is capable of clocking a triple-digit speed in just 3.8 seconds which is eventually 0.1 seconds faster than the A45 S. Even the top speed of the updated RS 3 Sportback is better than what Mercedes has got to offer. Feature-wise, it comes equipped with LED headlights, Nappa leather upholstery, 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system to name a few.
