Mercedes-Benz is one of India’s leading luxury carmakers and the German brand has managed to capture the premium market with ease. What’s new for everyone is the EV market and without taking any chance, Mercedes has announced that it will be introducing its flagship electric sedan, the all-new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+, on 24th August.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The launch has been scheduled on 24th August 2022.
  • AMG EQS is the flagship electric car for Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-AMG EQS

Exterior & Design

It is indeed a big car with dimensions rated at 5216mm (length), 1926mm (width) and 1512mm (height). Even the wheelbase stands at a mind-boggling 3210mm and that’s what makes it one of the best in its segment. Boot carrying is also ample and as per the spec sheet, it is similar to the regular model.

A boot is always present at the front of an EV. But Mercedes-Benz crammed the frunk to make the EQS aerodynamically effective. The end result is the lowest airflow coefficient of any production car, at 0.20.

Interior

Inside the cabin, AMG EQS feels like any other typical Mercedes car. However, to enhance the premium feel, a massive MBUX hyper screen that goes from one end to the other has been introduced. It has been one of the most innovative products from Mercedes-Benz in recent times. Interestingly, a dedicated MBUX software has also made its debut along with the screen to make this idea work.

Powertrain

AMG EQ 53 4Matic+’s standard model will have a whopping 649 horsepower and 950Nm of peak torque but then, there’s a Dynamic Plus package that offers the option to increase overall output, bringing it to 751 horsepower and 1020Nm. For your knowledge, AMG’s well-known Race Start mode is included in this package to take the user experience to another level.

Another intriguing feature of this top-of-the-line electric sedan is that it has an electric motor on each axle, which, depending on the situation, could supply power to all four wheels.

Battery Pack and Charging

Mercedes has confirmed that it has been powered by a 107.8kWh battery that returns an overall range of somewhere around 526kms to 580kms. Wondering why the range differs? Well, there are multiple drive modes to alter the performance and in the real world, these modes really make a difference.

A 200kW fast DC charger can supply enough power to the battery so that the EV can cover a distance of around 300kms. The regular charger on the other hand takes significant time but does the job pretty well.

Performance

Under ideal conditions, Mercedes AMG EQ 53 4Matic+ has been tuned to clock a triple-digit speed in just 3.4 seconds. The top speed of the electric limousine is rated at 250kmph, making it a perfect rival to Audi RS e-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
