Exterior & Design

On the outside, it remains similar to the imported model. The front profile of the upcoming S-Class is still expected to come with a new set of LED headlamps, reprofiled bumper and a revised chrome grille. The brand claims to offer ‘Digital light’ technology on the headlights that improve the overall visibility to a greater extent.

For now, the list of exterior shades remains the same. To be precise, the ‘Made in India’ S-Class comes with Onyx Black, Designo Diamond White, Rubelite Red, Emerald Green and Anthracite Blue. Just for a personalised experience, the potential buyers will also get to choose alloy wheels that range between 18 to 20-inches.

Interior matters and people who go for an S-Class definitely wants a lot from the interior. The latest-gen S-Class that was launched earlier used to come with a nicely laid out cabin with lots of features to focus on an unmatched luxury. Starting with the second row, it gets recliner seats with under-thigh support and separate screens for either occupant. These separate screens on the CKD unit are expected to be offered as an optional feature.

Apart from all this, it will continue to feature a sunroof, ambient lighting, 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system, heads-up display and an MBUX infotainment system across all the variants.

Engine & Powertrain

The localised version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be available with both petrol as well as a diesel engine. To begin with, the 400d is expected to come powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine known for producing a massive 326BHP and 700Nm of peak torque. There’s even the 450 variant that uses a similarly displaced petrol engine. The overall output from this unit is rated at 362BHP and 500Nm while being paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

Interestingly, Mercedes has also decided to offer the brand’s 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system on both variants.
