Design & Exterior

Grabbing all the attention on the road, the massive MG Gloster does dominate its rivals with the amazing road presence. However, with such intimidating dimension numbers, one might feel that the SUV will not be easier to park or manoeuvre inside the city. Well, that is not the case with the MG Gloster as it comes equipped with an automatic parking feature which does its job quite well. The flagship offering by MG Motors weighs around 2500 kgs and is 4985 mm long, 1926 mm wide and 1867 mm tall. Likewise, the wheelbase is also the best in segment at 2950 mm.

Coming to the front, MG Gloster gets a massive grille for adequate cooling which looks neatly done with that chrome garnishing on it. However, what actually catches the attention is the muscular bonnet with lines running all across and the wing-shaped LED projector headlamp setup. The side profile of the SUV does justice to the dimensions but looks conventional with that factory-fitted side steps. Apart from this, the usage of chrome elements looks extensive throughout the SUV including the door handles, ORVMs as well as on the 19-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, at the rear, MG Motors could have been more thoughtful regarding the ‘GLOSTER’ badging and fake quad exhausts.

Interior

With the whopping dimension numbers, MG Gloster does feel grand inside and can accommodate six passengers comfortably. However, what attracts us the most, is the center console that resembles any modern BMW car with that 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Further, the cabin of the SUV feels premium with the tan leather finishing all over including the doors and dashboard.

Coming to the layouts, Gloster comes in two configurations – 6 Seater (2+2+2) or 7 Seater (2+3+2).

The front and middle row are one of the most comfortable places to be inside the MG Gloster. However, the driver’s seat of the SUV offers a plethora of features including a 12-way adjustment with memory function, ventilation (heating/cooling) and massage function. Likewise, the co-passenger gets an 8-way adjustable seat but along with the heating function only. The top-spec variant comes with captain seats on the middle row while providing the passengers an adequate amount of headroom, legroom and under-thigh support. Meanwhile, the 7 seater gets a regular bench seat in the middle which can accommodate three passengers easily. Surprisingly, even the third row is meant for tall occupants on the MG Gloster making it one of the best in the segment when compared to its rivals.

Coming to the center console, it gets a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display that is crisp and responsive. Meanwhile, this infotainment system features Android Auto, Apple Carplay and comes paired to a 12 speaker audio system. Apart from this, it also gets the navigation and OTA updates along with a free subscription of the Gaana App. Another cool tech on the MG Gloster is the 8-inch MID screen that has tonnes of information to offer including trip meter, distance to empty, tire pressure monitor, etc.

Other features on offer are the three-zone climate control, cooled glovebox, large panoramic sunroof, 64 colors ambient lighting, adjustable steering wheel, air purifier and a flag treatment on the sills among others.

Engine & Performance

Powering the flagship SUV by MG Motors is a 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel engine that produces a massive 212BHP of power with a peak torque of 480Nm. However, the best part about the motor is that it is quite refined and the noise does not leave the engine bay due to heavy insulation. Being powered by a twin-turbocharged diesel engine, the power spreads in a linear manner while minimizing the turbo lag. The 8-speed torque converter on the MG Gloster does pair well with the engine and the shifts are quite slick. Thus, the all-new MG Gloster in no way feels sluggish.

Another cool trick is that one can manually take control of the shifts using the paddle shifters, however, too much downshifts are not possible on high revs as the gearbox is intelligent enough to make an upshift in no time. However, customers can also opt for a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine that produces 160.77BHP of power and a peak torque of 375Nm making it a pocket-friendly deal.

The performance of the 2.0L twin-turbo diesel engine is quite impressive on the highways as even after weighing around 2500 kg it can easily do a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 12.7 seconds.

Safety & ADAS Features

As Uncle Ben on The Amazing Spiderman movie said, “With great power, comes great responsibility” it is true as the all-new MG Gloster gets tonnes of safety features on offer. The checklist includes ESP, EBD, ABS, Traction Control (TC), Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control and Roll Movement Intervention as standard. Apart from this, the most crucial safety feature that one might be searching for is the multiple airbags that are placed at the front, side as well as a full-length curtain on both sides.

Pay more and get more has always been true as the top-spec variant of the MG Gloster is offering its owner the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Meanwhile, MG Gloster is the only SUV in the segment to come equipped with a Level 1 Autonomous System that offers the driver maximum assistance like Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Automatic Park Assist among others.

After-Sale Services

MG Motors is still on the verge to establish its market in India, however, the expansion will take sometime. The major concern right now is the parts availability. Meanwhile, getting your vehicle serviced will not be an issue at all. Apart from this, the expected maintenance service will cost the customers somewhere around Rs.18,000 (approx.) for five years.

Revised Price List – MG Gloster

At the time of launch, the SUV did came up with an introductory price offer which was limited to the first 2000 customers* or till 31st October 2020 (Whichever is earlier). However, the company has recently launched a revised price list for the all-new MG Gloster.

Rivals

The full-size SUV segment is one of the most competitive segments in India right now. Therefore, it might take longer for MG Motors to establish itself. However, in India, MG Gloster will combat against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas G4.

VERDICT

If you are looking for a city or a highway tourer in the full-size SUV segment with maximum features and massive road presence, MG Gloster is the right choice for you. However, one cannot expect the ruggedness and reliability from it, as the chief rivals offer. Moreover, MG Gloster does shine in terms of space and road presence along with the first in segment ADAS features. The only place where Gloster lacks is the attention to detail for such a huge SUV.
