MG ZS EV with an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) was all everyone expected from the upcoming mid-size SUV by MG Motor India. If someone is still thinking that way, the brand definitely wants you to reconsider everything from scratch. In the past few days, the Chinese car manufacturer has introduced the two best and first-in-segment technologies in the form of a personal AI assistant and Level 2 ADAS for the upcoming MG Astor.

Ready to experience the change? Well, you should definitely read what MG Astor has got to offer.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • MG Astor will feature a personal AI assistant and Level 2 ADAS.
  • To be powered by a 120HP petrol and a 163HP, turbo petrol unit.
  • Expect the upcoming Astor to be priced aggressively against Creta.

MG Astor: What to expect?

Since the all-new MG Astor will be featuring a personal artificial intelligence assistant let us talk about that first. For starters, the carmaker has collaborated with ‘Star Design’ which is an American brand to design the interactive robot which will be sitting on top of the dashboard. Using the i-Smart Hub platform, this robot can interact with you while providing all the information related to any topic from Wikipedia. Apart from this, it is also there to entertain the occupants with jokes, news and music if asked.

Secondly, MG Motor India has also announced that the all-new Astor will be featuring Level 2 Autonomous technology that makes it smarter than any SUV available in India. With cameras and radars onboard, the upcoming SUV will get several driving aids such as adaptive cruise control, speed assist system, lane departure warning & prevention, automatic emergency braking, etc just to name a few. According to the brand, this system has been optimised keeping in mind the traffic conditions in India.

In collaboration with Jio, the upcoming Astor SUV will be featuring multiple services such as digital passports and navigation via MapmyIndia.

Engine & Powertrain

Expect the upcoming Astor to feature a naturally aspirated, 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The overall output from this unit is rated at 120HP and 150Nm but in case, the driver inside you asks for more power, there will be a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol motor available on the top-end variants. To put the power in numbers, this unit churns out a massive 163HP and 230Nm of peak torque, making it the best-in-segment. Both of them will be getting a manual as well as automatic gearbox as per the buyers’ convenience.

Alternatives

When launched the all-new Astor will be placed below the Hector. However, in terms of pricing, it will go against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Renault Duster and Kia Seltos among others.
