Though it is just a facelift of the fifth-generation Discovery, still there are some major revisions on the outside. To begin with, the new Discovery gets a revised front bumper with a wide air intake, new pair of LED headlights with DRLs, a reworked grille, dynamic swipe indicators and new side vents among others. Based on the new Electronic Vehicle Architecture 2.0 (EVA 2.0), it will run on alloy wheels ranging between 19 to 22-inches as per the choices made by the customers.

At the back, a new pair of LED headlights, bumper and Discovery’s off-balanced tailgate is there to retain the iconic design language.

Interior

It comes with a proper 7-seater layout while offering an ample amount of space to even full-grown adults. That’s enough to justify the practicality. The dashboard of the updated Discovery features a four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, JLR’s latest 11.4-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system and reworked air-con controls. Keeping in mind the current situation, Land Rover is here with a PM2.5 air ioniser for the 2021 Discovery.

Engine & Powertrain

There are three of them. To begin with, the P300 variant features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine good for 300HP and 400Nm of peak torque. The P360 variant on the other hand will get a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol motor that churns out a massive 360HP and 500Nm of torque.

Land Rover has even introduced a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel motor for the D300 variant. Overall output from this unit is rated at 300HP alongside a peak torque of 650Nm. All three of them are available with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Intelligent all-wheel drive system (pretty obvious) as standard. Interestingly, the six-cylinder motors are available with a 48V mild-hybrid technology introduced to aid better fuel efficiency.

Alternatives

A variety of options are there at this range. To name a few, the new Land Rover Discovery will compete against some well-established German and Swedish rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. A family SUV but without such hardcore offroading capability, the Mercedes-Benz GLE sometimes does feel like a typical luxury SUV. The most powerful variant of the GLE gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder motor and this way, it remains similar to the recently launched Land Rover Discovery. Talking about the features, it comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, four-zone climate control and Park Assist just to name a few.
