The new Toyota Fortuner to launch in India on November 7th

Easily the most coveted car of the year, The new Toyota Fortuner is set to be unveiled in India on November 7th. Is it better than it's predecessor?

After the release of the toned up yet, hideous looking innova crysta, Toyota lost a major share of the market to Ertiga and other contenders. With the new Fortuner however, Toyota aims to make a comeback. The new Toyota Fortuner is built to recapture the Indian market. Unveiled earlier this year in other countries, it is set to be released in India on November 7th this year.

The new Fortuner is lined up with Toyota’s new GD series engines. An additional standout is that these engines are going to be assembled in India making the Fortuner lighter on the pocket. The new GD series engines comprise of a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel unit and a 2.7-liter petrol unit. Both engines though smaller than those of it’s predecessor, deliver similar power while, being more efficient. The power is delivered to the wheels via a six speed automatic or manual gear box. Thankfully Toyota has made the car more efficient by not going with all time 4WD this time around.

Exterior Appearance

The lavish use of chrome around the car makes the car tacky. The bold headlights and the 18 inch alloys raising the car above the ground give the Fortuner a confident persona. Other practical details such as the roof rails, side-step, fog lights make the Fortuner more convenient.  It is available in office suited colors which are mostly close to white, brown, black and grey.tyota-fortuner-frnt

The waterfall type center console looks beautiful only in catalogs, the real product isn’t as classy as advertised. But the instrument cluster portrays resilience with its robust build which will retain quality for years. The seven seater provides ample leg room in the first two rows and manageable leg room in the last one. The maneuverable seats can be folded to set the preferred cabin arrangement. This is a good car for the people who like to carry their work around, also a popular choice for a family

The car with the engine being assembled in India will definitely be cheaper than what it could have been. Yet the car might not be cheap, as Toyota, has decided to charge for the brand value of the car. The prices are expected to range between 30 and 36 lakh INR. The post purchase costs of Toyota’s have always been affordable with budgetary maintenance and good fuel economy, with the “eco mode” extending on the same trend. To sum it up, the reputation of Toyota’s reasonable post purchase costs will be carried ahead by the new Fortuner.

Other details

In terms of safety the car comes with a total of 7 airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. The car has acquired a five star safety rating in the collision tests and also, holds the title of the safest car in its price range. It comes with a lot of driving assistance equipments such as Anti-lock Breaking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, Downhill assist, Hill start assist and a lot more.

The biggest question is whether the new Fortuner is good enough to  live up to the standards set by it’s big daddy. Fortuner for Indians is a premium SUV and is perceived as a symbol of status and prominence. If it oriented along the same lines it will be a monumental success.  But will the new Fortuner live up to this expectation?
