The Supreme Court puts a hold on the registration of the BS4 vehicles until further decision. On 27th March, the top court allowed sales of the BS4 compliant vehicles for 10 days after the lockdown is over. However, the order was recalled later.

The SC allowed sales for the BS4 vehicles for 10 days after the lockdown nationwide, except the NCR region. The dealers sold around 2.55 lakh BS4 units while the allowed number was limited to 1.05 lakh units.

The next hearing to be on 13th August.

Looking at the number of BS4 compliant vehicles sold till 8th July, Justice Arun Mishra said, “Please do not take undue advantage of this court by playing fraud. You have told us no sales have taken place. You are understating your values.”

Even the hearing was postponed till 31st July so that the Centre could file the details regarding the BS-4 vehicles on the VAHAN portal. A large number of BS4 vehicles were sold during the lockdown.

The SC even told the Counsel appearing for the Federation of Automobile Dealers Automobile Association (FADA) that they are in great trouble.

Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Arun Sharma also stated that they will be taking appropriate action against the FADA if needed.
