Several American car manufacturers tried the Indian market in the last two decades and almost all of them failed. Irony, isn’t it!? Ford was one such carmaker that wrapped off its business from India recently and left. The reason was poor sales that resulted in losses and ultimately the automaker could not even cover the cost of its operations.

Jeep Grand Cherokee: Things You Should Know About The SUV

Exterior & Design

So, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee is homologated according to the needs and requirements of the customers in India. However, these changes do not deplete the global standards the SUV is bound to offer.

At the front, a typical Jeep grille sits at the centre flanked by twin sleek headlamps on either end. These headlamps are LED units and also consist of DRLs that enhance the overall style quotient. Then the side profile comes with massive alloy wheels and the rear profile is similar to what we have witnessed on the new Jeep Meridian.

Interior

The cabin is also very similar to what Jeep offers on the Meridian but to make it plusher three massive screens are available inside the cabin. The first one is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system at the centre. Meanwhile, two other screens – one for the driver’s display and another one for the co-passenger are also there to make it tech loaded. The feature’s list is endless on the new Grand Cherokee and to be precise, it comes loaded with ventilated seats, a massive panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, etc to name a few.

Engine & Transmission

Under the hood, Grand Cherokee is available with a sole 2.0-litre four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that churns out a decent 270 horsepower and 400Nm of peak torque. For transmission duties, the automaker has paired it with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The combination is close enough to perfection but the SUV still misses out on a diesel engine, making it a tough choice for buyers.

Safety

In terms of safety, it is loaded with several features that are very much needed in case of any mishap. To be very precise, the list includes 8 airbags, 3-point seat belts, a passenger detection system and a 360-degree camera to name a few. Interestingly, it is one of those SUVs in India which comes loaded with ADAS as standard.

Rivals

The new Grand Cherokee continues its intense rivalry with other premium SUVs such as Range Rover Velar, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. There is one more German rival to the SUV in the form of BMW X5 but it is pretty expensive with a price tag starting at Rs.98.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India).
