Cracking the code to sustain in an uncertain market requires a lot of study and experiment. It’s not that the European brands were struggling in India but to compete as a front runner something different was definitely required. The demand for SUVs in recent times has emerged well and keeping that in mind, Skoda is here with the all-new Kushaq priced at Rs.10.49 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) onwards.

Planning to buy Skoda Kushaq? Well, here are the details one should know before going for a compact SUV.

Skoda Kushaq

Exterior & Design

To begin with, Kushaq is a Sanskrit word that means emperor and with such striking design language, the front profile of the SUV does remind you of a young angry ruler. Sleek LED headlamps, signature Skoda grille, wide air intake and fog lamps complement the overall styling really well.

Most SUVs are judged from the side profile and this one is indeed a good looking thing. Running on chunky 17-inch alloy wheels (for top variant) with chrome door handles, side skirts, large wheel arches and roof rails the all-new Kushaq feel strong and well balanced.

A palette with a variety of colour shades including Candy White, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel, Tornado Red and Honey Orange with the last two shades introduced exclusively for the Indian market gives the customers a lot of options to choose from.

Interior

Unlike the conventional Skodas, the made in India product does feel premium. However, for cost-cutting, the Czech brand has extensively used hard plastics and even the finishing doesn’t feel like a typical Skoda affair. Leaving the entry-level Active variant behind, the other two comes with climate control.

Other features such as electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, standing touchscreen infotainment system, LED reading lights, ventilated front seats and ambient lighting are a part of the equipment list according to the variant.

Engine & Powertrain

Volkswagen Group has decided not to introduce diesel motors in India. This way, choosing a perfect powertrain will not remain that difficult for the customers. A 1.0-litre TSI or a 1.5-litre TSI engine is available on the all-new Kushaq and as specified by the company, the latter propels a massive 150PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque being mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Customers who want convenience can also opt for a 7-speed DSG gearbox for extra bucks.

Talking about the 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI engine, the Czech carmaker has pitched it as an entry-level option. The power figure from this motor stands at 115PS and 175Nm of torque making it fuel-efficient. Transmission duties for this unit are managed by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Well, that makes it a perfect SUV keeping in mind the current market condition.
