Maybe, this is the last time when Skoda is introducing an update or a special edition for the truly capable Rapid. As we already know, the Czech carmaker is all set to replace it with a new C-segment sedan therefore, the all-new Skoda Rapid Matte Edition is kind of a big deal from both the customers and even the brand’s point of view. Want to buy it? It is available with a price tag starting at Rs.11.99 Lakhs for the MT variant. Meanwhile, it is the AT variant of the same that is currently priced at a premium of Rs.13.49 Lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

Design & Exterior

On the outside, the overall silhouette of the Matte Edition remains exactly similar to the standard variants. However, to differentiate it, the special edition comes finished in a Matte Carbon exterior shade with several gloss black panels including the grille, door handle, subtle rear spoiler and even the alloy wheels.

Talking only about the updates, the new Rapid Matte Edition on the inside comes finished with a new dual-tone Tellur Grey shade. For added exclusivity, it even features a new black leatherette upholstery with Alcantara panels. Apart from this, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air ioniser and a rearview camera have also been added to make it feature-rich.

Safety Aids

The Czech carmaker is very particular about the occupants’ safety. Therefore, the special edition of Skoda Rapid comes fully loaded with twin airbags, ABS, engine immobilizer, rear defogger and a three-point seatbelt on both the AT as well MT variants.

Engine & Powertrain

Under the hood, even the Matte Edition of the new Rapid comes powered by the sole 1.0-litre three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. The overall output from this unit is rated at a decent 110PS with a peak torque of 175Nm. Interestingly, this setup is available with both – a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has recently achieved a milestone of becoming the fastest-selling sedan to clock a 3 Lakh units sale. Available with a sole 1.5-litre four-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine which can produce a decent 105HP and 138Nm of peak torque, it is a perfect rival to the Skoda Rapid.
