Skoda has launched the 2022 Kodiaq in India with a price tag starting at Rs. 34.99 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Although it is an extremely capable petrol-only model, enthusiasts are still missing the old TDI motor because of the overall mileage which was offered earlier.
The brand is deliberately sticking to petrol-only models because the BS6 compliant diesel engines with DPF are extremely unreliable. The major reason cited by many car manufacturers behind the failure of diesel engines with DPF is the harsh climate conditions here.
Also, the higher production/taxation charges won’t allow them to price these vehicles aggressively and this way, we need to accept this new product as it is. Of course, a mild-hybrid system could have helped but again the overall cost will still get affected.
Planning to buy a family SUV? Here’s everything you need to know about the new Kodiaq.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Skoda Kodiaq facelift has finally made its debut in India.
- Three variants have been introduced for the Indian market.
- It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol unit.

As already mentioned in the price list, Kodiaq will be available in three different trims, including – Style, Sportline and L&K.
On the outside, it will be featuring a massive radiator grille, reprofile bumpers, new LED headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels. Also, the wing mirrors are now electrically adjustable with a heated function.
Inside the cabin, it will be featuring several new features and a slightly revised dashboard layout. For starters, the 2022 Kodiaq gets a new two-spoke steering wheel, three-zone climate control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an analogue instrument cluster as standard. The carmaker is offering a fully digital instrument cluster on the mid and top-spec variants only.
Instead of a diesel motor, Skoda believes in offering a lot of modern features. To begin with, the all-new Kodiaq is available with a rearview camera, 12-speaker Canton surround sound system, keyless entry and a panoramic sunroof among others.
To make it even more exciting, the ‘L&K’ variant is equipped with six driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Normal, Individual, Snow and Sports). For your information, these modes not only alter the performance but even control the steering feedback.
Occupants safety on the other hand is ensured by 9 airbags across the entire range. Other safety aids such as ABS, brake assist, e-differential Lock, multi-collision brake, etc., are also a part of the features list.
Engine
Diesel engine is something everyone will miss on the new Kodiaq. However, if talking about the updated model then, it will be getting a potent 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces a massive 190PS of power and 320Nm of peak torque.
Transmission duties for this setup will be managed by a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Thankfully, a four-wheel-drive system will be available across the entire range.
Skoda is claiming that the new Kodiaq is capable of touching a triple-digit speed in just 7.8 seconds. Interestingly, this number is quite impressive for a family SUV.
Alternatives
In India, Skoda Kodiaq will compete against some full-size SUVs, including Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Mahindra Alturas G4 in terms of price.
