Skoda Slavia Vs Honda City

The world is still moving towards big and bold SUVs and then, there are some enthusiasts like you and me, who are still a fan of the old-school sedans. It’s true that Skoda has been claiming that the brand wants to revive the sedan segment in India but then, the big question arrives. Is the all-new Slavia loaded enough to compete with the evergreen Honda City? Now, that’s something tricky and to figure it out, we need to go through the details related to both of them just to answer this frequently asked question.

The ‘Route to Revival’ is on and buyers are really considering Slavia as their next car. So, what does this product bring to the prospective buyer’s plate? Well, it is modern, loaded with lots of features and is also the fastest among the lot.

Just like Kushaq, Skoda has offered Slavia with an entry-level 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. In this new sedan, the rated output from this unit stands at 113 horsepower and 178Nm of peak torque. For enthusiasts, it is also available with a potent 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine but sadly, a mile muncher diesel motor is something a lot of us is definitely going to miss. Slavia is currently the most powerful C-segment sedan because of this engine and to be a little more precise, this unit is capable of churning out a massive 147BHP and 250Nm of peak torque.

For transmission duties, it is available with a 6-speed manual, automatic and a 7-speed DSG transmission depending upon the variant.

With a European build quality, Slavia is loaded with up to six airbags, traction control, ABS with EBD, crash sensor and Multi Collision Braking. Several other crucial features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a sunroof, ventilated seats (front), a fully digital driver’s display and automatic climate control are also there to make it feature-rich.

Honda City

Forever and ever, if you are an enthusiast you definitely know how good the VTech motor is. Honda has always been known for its engines and this time, Skoda has pitched a worthy rival to the fifth-gen City.

Under the hood, it is equipped with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with overall output rated at 119 horsepower and 145Nm. Thankfully, Honda is still offering a similarly displaced diesel motor that is capable enough of churning out a decent 97BHP and 200Nm of peak torque. Since the fifth-gen City is available with a fuel-efficient diesel unit, it does have an upper hand over the mighty Slavia.

A 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT gearbox is a part of the feature list of the petrol variant. Meanwhile, if talking about the diesel variant, it gets a manual gearbox as standard.

In terms of safety, Honda City is loaded with up to 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, speed alert, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Other features such as an intuitive 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, connected car tech, remote engine start, LaneWatch camera and a full LED headlight setup is also available but may differ depending upon the variant.
