Tata Altroz iCNG: What’s new?
First thing first, Tata Motors has made it clear that Altroz iCNG will be available in six variants, depending on which features have been allocated. The colour palette of the hatchback, thankfully, has not been tweaked and it still continues to feature: Arcade Grey, Avenue White, Downtown Red and Opera Blue, just like the standard petrol-powered engine.
Now, since Altroz got a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP, the Indian automaker wishes to continue the legacy of offering world-class safety to its customers even on the CNG models. Keeping this in mind, Tata Motors has emphasised safety to a great extent and in case there is any kind of mishap, the thermal protection cuts the CNG supply and releases it into the atmosphere. Isn’t that cool?
What else is cool by the way are the features. In case, a customer who is planning to buy the hatchback thinks that Tata will delete several features to reduce the cost, then it’s not true. In fact, the list of features announced includes some crucial gears such as an electric sunroof, 8-speaker Harman surround sound system, air purifier, LED headlamps, etc to name a few.
Under the hood, Tata Altroz iCNG houses a known 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron engine, generating a decent 73.5 horsepower and 103Nm of peak torque. What truly sets it apart though is the clever placement of the CNG cylinders, ingeniously utilizing the boot space without compromising the overall capacity. Positioned beneath the luggage area, these twin cylinders ensure that storage remains majorly untouched.
Another noteworthy feature of the Altroz iCNG is the single ECU system, enabling a direct start in CNG mode. This new technology is also there to assure a seamless experience during mode shifts, ensuring a jerk-free transition while maximizing fuel savings.
In India, Altroz iCNG locks horns with Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG. But which one is better and offers a better value? That’s tough but to find out keep reading The Indian Wire.
